Welcome!

If you’ve found your way here, you’re likely familiar the ache of feeling like you don’t belong.

Maybe you’re used to the weight of stares for looking different, or you’ve worked hard to hide parts of yourself so you wouldn’t stand out.

Or maybe your differences are less visible but equally real—like being neurodivergent or carrying an inner world that feels hard to explain to others.

You may have been told that you’re “weird” or that your body is a problem to be “fixed”

At Authentically You Therapy, we do not believe these things were ever the problem.

Living with these experiences may have left you battling self-doubt, anxiety, or shame, and sometimes coping in ways that have made it harder to feel at peace within your unique body and brain.

You are not alone.

As someone who has been bald since the age of 6 due to Alopecia Areata and has navigated learning differences and ADHD, I understand the feeling of being different to my core. I also know how scary it can feel to embrace your authenticity in a world that wants us to conform. You deserve a space where you don’t have to explain or defend who you are.

In our work together, my hope is to help you start feeling at home in your body, release the weight of shame, and build confidence in showing up authentically. Therapy here isn’t about “fixing” you, it’s about helping you feel safe to be you.

Our Values

Providing body-positive therapy.

(and no, this does not mean we believe in toxic positivity — let us explain)

Our practice of being body-positive therapists means that we advocate for and believe in the acceptance and equitable treatment of ALL bodies regardless of size, ability, appearance, race or gender expression. Body-positivity is a value system, rather than a way you need to feel about yourself. We understand that it can be hard to feel positive about your body in such an appearance-obsessed culture and we apply no pressure for you to feel this way. The cool thing about having body-positive values is that it also encompasses more accessible practices such as body-neutrality & body-acceptance, which Alison uses often in her approach. In other words, you don’t need to feel “positive” about your body in order for body image healing to occur. We believe everyone deserves a peaceful relationship with their body and we will meet you where you’re at to help you get there.

Providing neuro-affirming therapy.

In the pursuit of developing a peaceful relationship with your body, we can’t leave out your brain! The same way we recognize body diversity, we recognize that all brains are wired differently.

Whether ADHD, Autsim, learning disabilities and all other forms of neurodivergence — we do not believe these are conditions that need to be “fixed” or “eradicated”. Our focus is on creating a validating environment that allows you to show up authentically without pressure to mask or conform. We understand the burnout that often comes as a result of operating in world that does not account for differently wired brains and together we can explore your challenges, strengths and navigate what it means to show up as your authentic self.
